For today’s digital-native generation, representation in gaming is as crucial as in real life.

We uncovered: 74% of developers said they would play a role in promoting better representation of textured hair in video games – if they could learn how to code textured Black hair. So, we collaborated with Open-Source Afro Hair Library and a team of Black 3D artists, animators, programmers to create ‘Code my Crown’ - a 200-page guide on how to code for textured Black hairstyles. We offered coders the tools to create inclusive and representative gaming experiences, thereby allowing Black gamers to see their identities mirrored in their avatars. Leading gaming companies have incorporated the code into its development processes reaching 34,000 employees serving 229 million gamers globally and 95% of Black gamers surveyed agree “the initiative has a positive impact on the gaming industry.”
